May it never be! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.” (Ro 3:4)

Misdirected Purpose Driven Life

I’ve written on Rick Warren’s talk at TED (February 2006 in Monterey, CA.) in a previous post. Warren became fabulously wealthy from the PDL book. Due to his newfound wealth, Warren has an epiphany for our purpose in life. Our purpose according to Warren is to be good stewards of the environment, care for the widow and orphan, support the oppressed, defend the defenseless, care for the sick, assist the poor, speak up for the foreigner, those in prison, basically he’s talking about all the marginalized in society.

I don’t think we should ignore the impoverished, but is that the purpose of a Christian life? When our Lord was walking on this earth, did He have the power to cure all those who are sick? Did the Lord have the power to fix the environment? Did the Lord have the power to rectify the injustices of the World? If that was our Lord’s purpose then He’s failed. Not only that but the Apostles who followed Him has failed because we still have these problems today. Does Rick Warren think that he and a bunch of atheists can accomplish something that the Lord and the Apostles couldn’t do? Or is Warren promoting a different purpose for Christian than the one that our Lord has commissioned? Our great commission is to preach the gospel and call Men everywhere to repent. Are we so far gone that we think the power of God is of no avail without first meeting the felt needs of the unrepentant? ?For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” Ro 1:16
